Downunder Toys was founded in New Zealand in 1992, moved to Melbourne two years later, and has been part of the Australian landscape for 13 years. The founders – two women - began the company when they discovered that most products available for women's erotic pleasure in the early 90's were made from materials now outlawed in the EU because they are toxic.
Consumers now know that silicone is the safest and best compound for pleasure products, but many do not know that all silicones are not created equal. Now that silicone is more widely available, many toys are being made of low-grade industrial silicones never intended for intimate use.
All Downunder Toys' products are manufactured using medical-grade silicone rubber - the same premium compound used for parts in heart pace-makers and other devices housed inside the human body. Safe and proven, but even better - silicone is non-porous, so it won't absorb lube or retain bacteria after washing, and it warms to the body - feeling much more natural than plastics.
At Downunder Toys, we see silicone as the bedrock of the future of pleasure products and we are proud to be pioneers in the design and manufacture of silicone pleasure products and accessories for women.
